Nancy, most of us are worried sick that the wrong guy is going to get in and destroy what's left of the country. There's a *VAST* difference between the candidates, and one of them is obviously wrong. I'm convinced I know which one's right. That's not partisanship--supporting one candidate only because of affiliation--it's patriotism.

I'd feel the same way if someone *OUTSIDE* the country seemed hell-bent on, well, sending my country to hell.

I *STILL* wonder where BakersfieldSuperman went. Now *THAT* was partisan.

My son bought Guitar Hero and my daughter loved it so we purchased the Wii Rock Band.

My daughter swims I don't. Her Dad takes her.

My daughter plays golf. I don't Her Dad takes her.

We hike, bike and run together.

Mostly: I heard of the 9 point spread on National Public Radio. The commentator (can't recall who this talking head was) said that it is a national popular poll; presidential elections are comprised of 51 (states and let's not forget D.C.) separate elections. The swing reflects anxiety over the economy and who is best qualified to rectify this mess and McCain's picking skills for a running mate. There are more questions about fundie-girl than answers.

It is illegal to remove campaign signs, however I think there should be a limit to the mini-billboard signs that vegas puts up all over town. They're gigantic eyesores and it just makes me think he likes driving around and seeing his name.

My mother-in-law, who isn't married, recently went to HD and ordered new faux granite counter tops for her kitchen. She paid for them to install them too. The workers came, removed the appliances, the old counter tops, and installed the new ones. They then informed her the job was complete. She asked who was going to put the appliances and sink back in. They said that was not part of the installation cost. She complained to a manager about this and the guy acted like he could care less. She ended up hiring another person to finish a job.

I recall some years ago, a study like the one described was shown in detail on PBS. The results were inconclusive at the time because nobody could report the random nonsensical short sentence that could only be seen from the ceiling. The hospital rooms were used because of the higher incidents of cardiac resuscitation. The whole thing sounds like a dog chasing its tail.

Paranormal stuff (so goes the premise) is not subject to lab conditions. Negative results does not disprove ghosts, bright tunnels, floating around, etc. I don't doubt there are people who would argue smoking doesn't cause lung cancer or sugar indulgence causes hyperactivity in children. There's no "proof."

Tactically today's exchange between the two candidates has been brilliant.

Action: McCain say's Obama is the better debater at a press conference and then "cancels the campaign" so he can go to Washington and roll up his sleeves to fix the problems with the economy.

Result: Obama looks like 1) he just wants to hold a press conference (debate) where he can beat up on McCain, the representative of the real people and 2) he doesn't care about the economic problems.

This is a brilliant move by McCain, who the polls are showing voters don't trust with economic issues as much as they trust Obama.

Obama just held a press conference to respond.

Action: He said he called McCain this morning and suggested they issue a joint statement taking politics out of the economic issue and get the problem solved. They agreed on that during a later phone call, Obama said, but then McCain made his statement and cancelled the debate. Obama said this is exactly the time not to drag the presidential campaign into D.C. but to hold the debate and talk to the american people about the problems facing the country.

Result: McCain looks like 1) He stole a good idea from Obama for political gain, 2) is turning the bad economy into a political circus and 3) is afraid to debate the issues of the day in public.

That's a brilliant tactic by Obama.

Let's not have any illiusions here — both camps are in FULL campaign mode and are fighting effective tactical skirmishes against each other.

Hmmm... Last week McSame declares that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong." He's missed dozens of votes in the Senate over the past months and for years has touted "deregulation" of just about everything. Yesterday Palin is hidden from the media while she meets with foreign leaders. Today national polls put McSame 9 points down to Obama. Yet suddenly there's such a crisis that McSame says he needs to be in the Senate on a Friday night? Smells like good old fear to me. He doesn't want to have to explain this stuff to America.

If he thinks Palin's ready to lead, then how about McSame offering to have her debate Biden on Friday? Or how about offering to have her work on the economic crisis? *yeah, I didn't think so!*

What I got on network news is no bailout is going to pass without republicans on board. They are not about to cast a vote that contradicts their candidate. In a nutshell, the whole thing rests on what McCain thinks. McCain hasn't said anything final yet, one way or the other, although he has expressed leanings (like Obama) that some sort of bailout needs to be passed quickly.

My guess is McCain wants to sit with advisors before before coming out with a statement or a plan of his own. He can't do that and prepare for a debate at the same time. Unless he wants fundie-girl to step up to the plate and debate Obama.

Sage: I agree we need to study the issue. But with Congress leaving, we can't study too long without action. And timing is a factor. Most agree we will have to do something ($$$$), but the real quarrel seems over how much and with what oversight.

Personally, let them have only the money they need but include LOTS of oversight. And go after anyone getting bonuses for a failing company. Sue them for it if you have to. Especially if we are the new owners.

I really do NOT like Home Depot. Typically I shop at Lowe's because their selection of items is much better usually (especially in the garden section). We looked at Home Depot for ceiling fans but found most of their floor models looked like crap and we couldn't even see how they looked because of how they had them on display...We headed over to Lowe's and they were displayed so they were easy to see, clean (Home Depot's were buried in inches of dust), in good repair (HD's had broken and burnt out bulbs or no bulbs at all), etc. I may pay a few extra pennies for items at Lowe's but the service and the store's lighting and selection of items and their condition of display items is soooooo much better. My husband says he will never shop at HD again.

I hate to burst this sensationalistic bubble, but let's try to clear this up. We got a phone call from a neighbor who didn't like the flag. We went to the neighborhood to see what was the hub-bub. Several other neighbors voiced their concerns. We spoke to the home owners who just moved from Indiana. Nice people who explained they were flying the flag as part of their family history. It was not meant to be racist in any way. We got phone calls from people who support their right to display the flag and included that element in the follow up. That's the way we wrote the story, that's the way we reported it.

Actually gube, I have 11 years clean, and thank you. It took some getting used to even thinking of it as being that, afterall i was, and still do, take speed. But Amphetamine IS not Methamphetamine, and i did have to deal with the withdrawals. Having the prescription, combined with my desire, did make the difference. I can almost guarantee, had i not had that "help", I would still be struggling in world I hated being. Also, I might add, none of my doctors (at the time I recieved the medication) were aware of my using. It took about a year before I started having no "need" for street garbage.

At age 15, while in a state hospital, I was diagnosed as being manic depressive...a term no longer used. Now referred to as Bi-polar, it was not an acurate diagnosis. Back then there was no reconition of ADHD, and I'm not so sure there should be one now. What I had was anti-social behavior problems, some of which i still deal with today. Stemming from my chilhood, doctors mis interpreted my isolating into being severely depressed. When the truth of the matter is, I was just scared and confused about how to act, what was the "right" way to be and who I was. Throw in the "why am i here", and you end up with people like me who find escaping more comfortable.

Anyways, i could go on and on....that's why I'm writing the book. A modern day Alice in Wonderland ( not the title) I think will be the final step in my personal recovery!

I'm voting yes on Prop 5. Our prisons are overcrowded enough as it is. We need more space for violent offenders in the prisons rather than people who get mixed up in drugs. I think Prop 5 is a good idea and though you say that they get six "bites of the apple" before being held accountable, you fail to mention whether they will be held accountable for other crimes that are committed when they are caught with the drugs. If a person commits no other crimes than HAVING drugs, then I think they should get a few more chances. This has already been done on a smaller scale, with (probably) less rigorous standards than I hope this study uses.

Staff will be trying to ascertain if reports of people floating above their bodies on hospital beds or seeing a bright tunnel as they die can be scientifically proven.

Over a three-year period, doctors will set up images in hospital wards that can only be seen from the ceiling.

People who are resuscitated after a cardiac arrest or heart attack will then be asked if they can recall anything from their ordeal to see if they spotted the images.

The results of the earlier test showed zero evidence for the credibility of out-of-body experiences (which is technically what the study is set up to monitor, not life-after-death). Not a single interviewed witness correctly described the experience in a way which would indicate it was valid.

Now, lots of people report OOBE's and the reports are similar. Remember that similar "tunnel vision" effects are seen in cases of high acceleration, and most likely have a material, physical explanation.

I hope they're not spending too much ont he study. Lots of more worthwhile things to test.
