me n my boyfriend began our 5 day road trip late n the day from the central valley. we decided to punch in somewhere to eat on our gorman. it took us to this restraunt but it had been renamed. we were a little worried but the parking lot was filled for a tuesday nite so we went inside. the atmosphere was nice,we sat down in the bar area ordered drinks which were fabulous. the meals were absolutely the best hispanic food we have ever tasted. he had the real chicken, suggested by our waitress and i...

Benji's French Basque Restaurant
My People love the Stuffed Veal Medallions, and the Scampi is awesome. Mom thinks the soup is the best in Bakersfield. They enjoy Benjis at least once a week.

presume that there is more than one Mauricio's. we've had several meals at a location near California and Stockdale. and none for the last years. food ok, if overpriced. same to be said of their Margeritas, but those were seriously overpriced. service for the few times that we tried, could best be described as the worst. a few years since we have been there, and not likely that we shall ever return. May i reccommend "Los Mulcojetes" (Brundage, west of Chester) instead. a much wid...

Average food, Rude employee About two month a friend and myself had lunch there, my friend found a piece of gray hair in his taco. Being the germ-a-phob that he is, he went up to the boss(who has gray hair and doesn't wear a hairnet or hat), and ask why he doesn't wear a hat, while his all his workers do. In response the boss (I don't recall his name) state he is the boss and he can do whatever he wants. The other day I went back to Baja fresh (I use to go there about once a month since it...

The best Mexican food in Bakersfield!!! Great happy hour too! Giant Tecate drafts and a chile verde wet burrito. Life doesnt get much better than that!!! Customer service is always excellent as well. Keep up the good work!

Okay, they are very good, not great but very good. I for one cannot pass up a maple bar from Smiths. I remember the maploe bars from smiths when they sold them at the market on Niles street next to Horace Mann school in 1952 and my Mom used to give me and my brother extra money to get one on the way hame from school. How can anyone forget Gallands bakery and the jelly filled Bismarks with the Vanilla icing on top, oh, just would like one more.

My family and I went to First 5 Star Restaurant to try the food but it was NASTY!!! I love Thai food and was very excited to try this place but I was beyond dissapointed. The American food was not good at all either. The corn was spoilt, the fries and chicken were hard, the rice uncooked, the soda had no gas, and the trays did not have food...it seems like whatever food they had left from earlier was still sitting there.... I do NOT recommend this place...it was too expensive for bad food...

I must whole-heartedly agree with the glowing reviews given to this place. The formula is simple: Great donuts, great service. Easily the friendliest and most helpful staff of any donut shop I've ever been to in this town. Fortunately, I work nearby so it's easy to drop by early in the morning and pick up a dozen. As long as the current ownership has this place, it will always be a winner.

Dined here with a large group. The service was a little slow, but we were prepared for that since we had so many people on a weekend night. The food was delicious. I think we were all impressed with it, and I loved the bread selection. Can't wait to go back!

We've been going here for several years and it has always been a good experience. Most of the staff has been there during that time too. That tells me that if they are happy enough with their jobs to stick around this long, then they will be treating the customers well, and they do. The south of the border nachos are great with plenty of chorizo, cheese, and chili verde. I like the fact that they serve the ice tea in LARGE glasses that never seem to empty. Like the ...

Can someone from Sonic please explain to myself (and I'm sure many other customers) why their intercom system for taking orders is so mediocre? For a company that does 100% of its business via the intercom (drive thru and car hop service), a person would automatically think that Sonic would invest heavily in getting a top-of-the-line system in place. This problem exists at all of the Sonics I have visited over the years, not just the one on Olive Drive. The rest of the review is based solely on ...

Don't plan on using any gift certificates. You cannot count on them being any good. The bread is cold and dry. The beans must be this week's cheapest can. The Deep pit is bland. If you want salsa with the deep pit, you better ask for it. The potato was under cooked, and the catfish was overly breaded. The waiters were very courteous as they declined a gift certificate from Christmas. They said it was from a different manager, and so, was no good. In the last six months, we have been there three ...

We have been to Mauricio's twice. The first time we did not like the food, but I guess we forgot, because when my husband said he'd like to go for his birthday, I said okay. Big mistake. I ordered a chile colorado burrito and a taco with rice and beans. My husband ordered an enchilada and a tamale. The tamale was smothered in chile verde, which my husband did not like. There was nothing in the description that mentioned chile verde. My chile colorado burrito was very small, had only 3 or 4 ch...

I tried Jimano's for the first time on Saturday and was amazed at the impeccable quality from the phone service right down to the cracker thin crust on the pizza! I had a gift certificate for 20 dollars and asked over the phone if I could use a gift certificate for delivery. I was told it was not a problem! This was a pleasant surprise! We ordered the weekend special which included an 18 inch pizza with two toppings, a two liter beverage and bread sticks with sauce. I mu...

We went on our anniversary using a $25 restaurant.com certificate. The pasta with lobster and shrimp in an alfredo sauce was good. NY steak was a bit tough. Our problem was with the bill. Our $44 debit charge had a reference number, but we were charged $155 for the meal! Our dinner was on a Thursday and I caught the  ;overcharge the following Tuesday. The owner apologized, said it had happened before and kidded that her husband didn't want her to use the credit card m...

I went to lunch there again today. I have been there several times and it is always excellent. &nbs p; The food is fresh and not greasy like some chinese fast food. The food and the value is unbeatable. A 3 item combo is $5.50 which includes a drink. The facility is clean and the owners are friendly.

All sandwiches are $5. Drinks are served in styrofoam cups with soft crushed ice. They also have burgers, pastrami, and serve breakfast. The Haberfelde building is really neat.
-
Pro: Ryan, the owner, is always extremely friendly and knows not just her customers' names, but their personalities and likes. Sandwiches are large and tase great. Very good value. Con: The deli is hidden inside the Habberfield building (17th and Chester), which can sometimes seem very dark. Definitely a hidden treasure downtown!

The Country Rose Tea Room is well known in the ladies circles of Bakersfield. When stores along H street have gone under CRTR is still as popular as ever. Why? Great product, and great atmosphere, it is also a good location for folks working downtown. During peak times expect to wait. If you want a good idea of what it is like think Sequoia Sandwich with an estrogen overload. The food reminds me of a Bed and Breakfast as it is specialty and unique and most probably not on your diet men...
