My wife and I ate here again and the food and service were excellent. This restaurant is such a nice change from the usual Bako Asian buffets. Others we knew have also commented to us how much they enjoy the food here. It appears someone has an axe to grind with this business, hence the 1 star ratings. I can understand giving a restaurant a lower rating if it was having an "off day", but those ratings seem to have a common thread not related to the food. Anyway, we love the place ...

This is the best Chinese I have had in Bakersfield. Truly a mom and pop operation. Great service.

I can't believe I never reviewed this place, it's great! OK, I'm a bit prejudiced since I grew up Sicilian and much of what I was raised on is exactly what Sandrini's has to offer but in reality...we travel quite a bit and routinely seek out Italian places. Sandrini's has what we expect, what I grew up on and is as authentic to home cooking as I can find here in Bako. Some...(sorry mom) is even better! I've established this place among my favorites and if I happen to see ya there, you got ...

My party, which included young children, ate here for lunch the first time today. The staff was friendly, yet non-intrusive. They waited on customers, prepared the food quickly, and seemed to actually care if you liked the food, 5 stars. The restaurant is clean and well ordered, with three big flat screen TVs all turned to the same channel which was a sports channel with no foul commercials (which I especially liked). There are no booths in the restaurant and there is a clear pa...

I'm really, really pleased with Ellis Island pizza. I've had their pizza a couple of times now and it's been consistently good. The only complaint I would have (if you could call it that) is that they use iceberg lettuce for their salads and I'm not a big fan of Iceberg, I wish they used some darker leaf lettuce like Romaine. Otherwise the pizza is awesome, it's become my new favorite pizza place, and CHEAP!! Cheap is good, 'cause I just a po' workin' stiff!!! All the staff are darling, ...

I just had lunch here for the first time. I also just had lunch here for the last time. The food was flavorless. The fried shrimp appetizer and the sweet and sour pork were inedible. The service was great. But, that is not enough to get me to try again.

Had a very delicious lunch yesterday with a friend. Enjoyed one of their lunch specials, Sea Bass, garlic mashers, fresh green beans. Fresh food well cooking in Bakersfield. Crab cake for appetizer was dry and fishy not fresh. The pool of sauce the cakes were served on was amazingly delicious. Wanted to pick the plate up and lick it clean :) Service was just okay although server checked on us, seemed to be in a hurry to leave us, would check on us and immediately walk away, several times ...

I've always had top notch food and service here. Went to dinner just this past weekend and had a very professional waiter and quick, classy service. The prices are higher than the average pretend Italian chain, but I don't mind paying a more for quality. The portions are certainly not skimpy. Be sure to have the bread with dipped in some olive oil, parmesan and crushed red pepper mixed together on the edge of your plate.

THE BEST PLACE TO EAT HEALTHY AND ENJOY GOOD FOOD. They have so many various toppings to create a delightful salad, a taco and pizza bar, vegetarian choices and delectable soups and bakery items, and fresh fruit and light low-calorie desserts. If you enjoy eating healthy and creating your own plate of the freshest ingredients and most delicious food items until you have to undo the notch in your belt....THEN GO HERE!!! i'd give 10 stars if i could ;]

Do not go to this resturant; it is horrible. The inside is dirty and run-down. The Department of Health needs to inspect this place; I was very concerned with the food safety. There is no customer service here. I was waiting for almost 20 minutes for the bartender to show up at the bar, I guess he was also cooking in the kitchen. The food is nasty. The nachos are soggy and cold; it appears that they microwave most of their food. Do no...

I will never go back to this place again. Before going there I had heard that the food was bad but then I thought everyone has there own taste. Well they were right the food was bad. We had a lot of appetizers, like hot wings that tasted like pure vinegar was on them. Potato wedges that were burnt. Nachos that were soggy from the time that we got them. We held a party where about 30 people showed up. The alcholic drinks as far as I could see didn't have ...

We had to wait forever on the ONE waitress working (the other girl who could have helped us just stood at the podium waiting for non-existent customers to walk in-she could have helped out by at least getting us water). While the appetizer was good, when they finally brought us our food, mine was the wrong order. When I brought it to her attention, she claimed it was the kitchen's fault. They must have been screwing up good that night as two other people got screwed up orders, with one person wa...

I have always been a fan of this non descript little gem, just a stones throw from Jake's Tex Mex. The sashimi is top rate,( especially when the toro's in season) , as well as the bento boxes that are so popular at lunchtime. I usually perch myself up at the sushi bar, and mark things off on the sushi/sashimi list, and eat what the friendly chef prepares in front of me! I've been to every Japanese restaurant in town, and yet I always go back to Bento Box. They are definitely doing the righ...

I've been coming to this wonderful gem since for over 10 years, and I enjoy going now as in the beginning! I've always ordered the same thing, which is a small Vienamese beef stew, and iced coffee, but I've since had numerous other delicious items on the menu. There are familiar lunch and dinner specials, as well as selections for the more ambitious. Everything is always served with courteous and friendly smile!

A great place to dine. It truly is a hidden gem, but is definitely worth looking for! The sizzling rice soup has always been my sick day "chicken soup" go to guy for years; although it's just as enjoyable and delicious in good health. It's located in the shopping center on the NW corner of Fairfax and Oswell, next to Magoo's Pizza. Go there and order anything on the menu, you won't be disappointed!

Went to Joseph's a couple months back and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. &nbs p; The place is located behind the Golden State Mall and was kind of difficult to find. The place is cozy and the staff is friendly. I have been to Rosa's in the NE and I have to say that Joseph's food is better and the prices are more reasonable. Finally found a good Italian restaurant in Bako.

Went on a Saturday morning, it was packed, so the service was a bit slow. Once we got our food, we were blown away by the portions. The prices are low and the food is good.

Moved to Bakerfield in 2005 from SoCal. When I first visited this place I thought I was back in the ghetto ( not the best part of town). But once I tried the chile verde, I was sold. This place is awesome! My kids are picky eaters, but they really like the enchiladas and chile rellenos. I recommend this place to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

So we decided to try the Sinaloa in down town Bakersfield today. Let me tell you being a native of the state of Sinaloa Mexico, I wanted to go back to the kitchen and SMACK the cook. "It is not authentic Mexican or Sinaloa food" is what the waitress told us when we mentioned it was our first time there. I think she knew that unless you grew up going to the Sinaloa you would probably be disappointed, and she was right on the money. I ordered the enchilada and tamale(if you can ca...

Here's the deal... Smith's is a tradition. Anyone who grew up in Bakersfield has been given their happy face sugar cookie as a child.... even though their products are not the best, you can't put a price on nostalgia... it's great for what it is.... many of "Bakersfield's Best" fall into this category. If you're not originally from Bako, you can see through the tradition and nostalgia. Otherwise, you will keep going back to the original and never try anything new...

In a town lacking quality restaurants, Josephs is a gem. Great food and great service. And, it won't break the bank.
-
I'm sorry I just don't get the whole Smith's thing. I have yet to have anything of quality from this place. Perhaps someday Bakersfield will have a real bakery,
-
As much as I love Smiths, I've had to give them up. Their prices have put them completely out of my budget and that's such a shame. As good as they are, cookies just aren't worth over a dollar apiece. I grew up with them but they've moved into the realm and price of gourmet baked goods. Sorry old friend.

Highly Overated!! You can get as good if not better @ many other shops in town, with a much cheaper price I might add.
